The American Public Works Association is
an international educational and professional association
of public agencies, private sector companies and
individuals dedicated to providing high quality public
works goods and services. Charted in 1938, APWA is the
largest and oldest organization of its kind in the world
with over 25,000 members. The association's headquarters
is in Kansas City, Missouri with an office in Washington,
D.C. and 67 chapters throughout North America.
The
mission of the American Public Works Association is to
improve the quality of life by providing a forum for the
development and exchange of ideas, information and
technology, which enhances the delivery of public
services by promoting the personal and professional
growth of its members, and by advancing public works
issues on the public agenda.

Membership in APWA is open to public and
private sector individuals, agencies and companies
interested and involved in the delivery of public works
goods and services. Most categories of membership,
including those available for the private sector, are
voting memberships carrying full rights and privileges.
APWA is unique among public sector organizations in this
regard. The public-private partnerships characteristic of
public works in communities across North America are
replicated in the association and reflect the interests
and needs of that workplace and the public works
professionals who serve there, be they public or private.
The result is a stronger, more vibrant, more effective
national association.
Membership brings direct benefits such as full chapter
membership and discounts on publications and registration
at APWA meetings and programs. It also provides each
member with a subscription to APWA's monthly publication
the APWA Reporter and a one-year subscription to the
Journal of Public Works Management and Policy. In addition, Corporate members appear in the
Corporate Directory edition of the APWA Reporter and
receive discounts on advertising in this publication.
